How to boost your Nectar balance with Sainsbury’s Energy.

Energy is one of those household basics that usually just ticks away in the background. However, we think your electricity and gas should do more than just keep the lights on. Through our partnership with E.ON Next, we’ve created a way for your home energy to support your weekly shop.
It’s the only UK tariff that rewards your grocery habits directly. You’ll join a system where your loyalty at the checkout pays off in your energy life – and vice versa. It’s not as complicated as you might think to get started, and it’s all built on the reliability you’d expect from us.

Step by step: how to link your Nectar card to Sainsbury’s Energy
Connecting your Nectar account to your Sainsbury’s Energy account is the first step to unlocking your rewards. Let’s explore the process in several easy steps.
If you’re a new customer
If you’re just joining us, setting up won’t take you long:
Fill out your details and get a quote.
When we ask for it, enter your 11-digit Nectar card number in the section.
It’s important to do this during the application as it’ll trigger your one-off welcome bonus points (usually split between your electricity and gas supply).
If you’re an existing customer
If you’re already with us but haven't connected your card yet, it should only take a moment:
Log into your Sainsbury’s Energy account.
Head to the ‘Rewards’ or ‘Nectar’ tab.
Enter your card details to link your accounts.
Once you’re done this, you’re all set to start seeing those points add up. You can also explore our different energy plans to see which one fits your needs best.
Getting the most out of your Nectar points
If you want to be super proactive about your savings, there are a few ways to make your Sainsbury’s Energy Nectar points go even further.
A reminder about annual caps on multiplier points
It’s important to mention that there is an annual limit on the amount of multiplier points you can earn. The benefit is capped at 3,500 points per fuel, per annum.1
Once you hit that cap, you’ll still earn points at the standard rate, but the ‘triple’ boost will pause until your next anniversary.

How to pay towards your energy bills
You can’t technically pay your energy bill with Nectar points by having them deducted from your statement. Things work a little differently but you’ll still hopefully see some savings.
You can use Nectar points to pay for groceries at Sainsbury’s or fill up your car at Esso. By using these points to cover daily costs, you’ll keep more cash in your bank account. Then, that extra cash is available to cover your energy direct debit. And this is what we call ‘The Loop’.
Unlike other suppliers who might offer one off gift cards that expire or can only be used in one place, your rewards are flexible and ready when you are.

Your FAQs about Nectar and Sainsbury’s Energy
Can I link my partner's Nectar card to my energy account?
Yes, you can. You can link any valid Nectar card to your Sainsbury’s Energy account, even if the name on the card doesn’t match the name on the energy bill. Just keep in mind that once linked, all the Sainsbury’s Energy rewards and multipliers will go to that specific card, so make sure it’s the one you use for your weekly shop.
Can two Sainsbury’s Energy accounts link to the same Nectar card?
No. Currently, each Sainsbury’s Energy account can only be linked to one Nectar card. However, multiple energy accounts (e.g. if you have a second home or are a landlord) can generally be linked to the same Nectar card to centralise your points.
What happens if I move house?
If you’re moving, you’ll need to let us know so we can close your old account and set up your new one. Your Nectar points stay with your Nectar account. However, you’ll need to check that your new property is also on a valid Sainsbury’s Energy plan and ensure your card is linked.
Why haven't my bonus points appeared yet?
It can take a little time for the systems to talk to each other. Your bonus points usually take up to 30 days to appear in your Nectar account after your supply has officially started. If you’ve reached the 31 day mark and they’re still missing, please get in touch and we’ll sort it.
Where do I find my Nectar card number?
You can find your 11 digit Nectar card number on the back of your physical card, just above the barcode. Or, you could open the Nectar app and tap on the card icon – your number should be displayed there.
How do I sign up for a Sainsbury's Nectar card?
If you aren't a member yet, join by downloading the Nectar app and/or visiting the Nectar website. It’s free to join.
